Realities beyond boundaries

Lidia develops new production concepts for the event industry’s use, bringing together live and digitally augmented audience experiences. Our artistic work and research boldly follow the idea that the future of large-scale events is in the hybrid operations of venues and event producers.

We redefine the roles and functions of public events and culture venues. Our vision is based on the traditional live experience as well as established and yet-to-be-imagined events and festivals that reach new audiences through diverse digital content and experiences.

Tampere Tattoo & Art Fest

2025

The collaboration with Tampere Tattoo & Art Fest continued in 2025. Lidia was invited to create an augmented reality (AR) space where festival visitors could explore the works of local visual artists during the event. Lidia also produced a live performance at the festival, where tattoo artist Mikko Inksanity created a visual artwork in an XR environment. The augmented reality view was videocast by Lidia’s XR-videographer for the audience to see in real time.

Stakeholder Events

2024

In March 2024, Lidia held a series of events at Tavara-asema for guest audiences demonstrating the different ways augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) will change the event industry in the future. In these events, several demos were showcased from XR-enhanced live music performance to personified AI customer service experiences in augmented reality.

Bridge

2024

“Bridge” was an augmented reality (AR) installation created as a custom order for the Tampere Tattoo & Art Fest. In collaboration with the event organizers, Lidia designed and implemented a serene space in which attendees could immerse themselves in a tranquil Asian landscape using AR glasses, all while remaining connected to the other events of the festival.

Limlith

2023

Drawing on Lidia’s previous work with “Boblith”, the augmented reality (AR) installation “Limlith” similarly employed video-based motion capture to captivate audiences at Lost in Music festival. Festival-goers were immersed in an interactive experience where they could control a troupe of shadowy avatars projected onto a screen. The installation encouraged participants to engage with the avatars through dance-like gestures, offering a gamified reward in the end.

Boblith

2023

“Boblith” was an augmented reality (AR) installation that utilized video-based motion capture technology to immerse the audience deeper into the Twin Peaks -themed night at Tavara-asema. As the audience drew nearer a projection screen the seemingly idle characters from the tv-series started mimicking their gestures jerkily, thus creating an otherwordly experience of interacting with the characters.

Strangelith

2023

Lidia’s extended reality (XR) installation “Strangelith” expanded Tavara-asema venue’s Stranger Things -themed event into virtual reality by integrating physical and virtual event spaces. The installation lured event attendees to move between these spaces while partying and provided them a chance to become a theme-based virtual avatar while doing so. The interface between realities were window-like screen-based portals that allowed direct speechless communication and interaction between the virtual avatars and attendees.

Discolith

2022

“Discolith” was an augmented reality (AR) installation that continued to explore the physical and virtual co-presence of live and remote audiences. Set inside Tullikamari’s Klubi venue, the projection-based installation invited the local club-goers to interact with a virtual dance party, and dance together with remote party-goers’ avatars who were controlled by the Lidia team in real-time.

VR Residency

2022

VR residency provide the possibility to explore the effect of virtual reality technology on the traditional work of an actor / performer. The aim of the residency was to create new knowledge for the members of the working group (performers Jenna Teinilä & Johanna Tohni) about VR/AR-enhanced performing. The design of new performative experiences and environments call for a new kind of dramaturgy, in which the spectator is no longer a passive receiver but holds an agency within the experience. VR residency was carried out in 2022 with the support of Finnish Cultural Foundation (Pirkanmaa region fund).

Psychelith

2022

“Psychelith”– thus named due to its psychedelic aesthetics and monolith-like structure – was an extended reality (XR) installation realized during the Uusi Tampere music festival at the Hiedanranta area in Tampere, Finland. Inside the festival area, the Lidia team composed an interactive, hybrid environment that invited festival goers to experience each other’s physical and virtual co-presence through a screen-based interface. In addition to this, the installation offered them an opportunity to jump into the virtual extension of the festival site.
